Located just east of Pittsburgh, PA at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountain Range, AdvantagePoint Laurel Highlands provides high quality, cost-effective care to its communities through a network of over 150 providers and four hospitals. Formed in partnership with Conemaugh Health System in 2016, the organization continues to drive innovations that enhance the quality of care for patients throughout the Laurel Highlands region.
Sonia brings more than 10+ years of experience in healthcare to the role. She began her career at Conemaugh as a nursing assistant, then nurse, and continued working her way up. Sonia worked as a Care Manager through the Primary Care Resource Center (PCRC) after working bedside for 7 years. Most recently she led the PCRC and AdvantagePoint – Laurel Highlands Population Health team for 2 years. This team provides a broad range of primary care ancillary services, with an emphasis on coordinating care for patients with complex chronic disease states. Throughout her years of service, Sonia served on multiple committees aimed at reducing readmissions and improving quality of patient care. Her collaboration with internal and external team members to support value-based initiatives has been paramount to the success of these programs to-date. Being a Windber native, Sonia has a strong desire and commitment to serving our patients, providers, and communities.
Sonia is a master’s graduate of American Military University. She earned her associate and bachelor’s degrees from Mount Aloysius College. Sonia completed both the Aspiring Leader Program and the New Leader curriculum while employed at Conemaugh. She enjoys spending time with her family, including her 6 children and 3 grandchildren. Spending time at the beach, reading, and adventuring to new places are among Sonia’s top three fun things to do when not working.
Originally from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Dr. Masser graduated from Frostburg State University in 2001 and earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 2006. She joined the faculty after completing her residency here at Conemaugh. She also holds a Master of Science in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine from the PCOM and a Master of Science in Medical Education from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is the current Associate Program Director and Director of Osteopathic Education at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. She is also an American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP) examiner and subject matter expert item writer. She is a past president of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physician Society (POFPS), Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA) Board Trustee at Large, treasurer for (POMA) District VIII, and Vice Speaker of the POMA House of Delegates. She is a member of American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, POMA, POFPS, American Academy of Osteopathy, Cranial Academy, Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
Dr. Masser is board-certified from the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and a Fellow of the ACOFP and the AAFP. She enjoys seeing a wide array of patients doing both inpatient and outpatient care. She has a passion for Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) and uses it frequently in her patients.
She loves spending time with her family including her husband and two children. When not working, you can find her busily involved in the community and her church. She coaches several sports at her high school alma mater which her children now attend and she frequently volunteers for several boosters organizations and loves being a part of the community she grew up in.
